& Counseling
Hi, I'm Ian. I am a licensed therapist that work with individuals, couples, and families to help address current stressors that are impacting their lives.
Therapy Services
Individual Therapy
We come to times when we feel like we are heading in the wrong direction, find ourselves in patterns we cannot break, or trapped in situations we see no way out of. Waiting until we are in crises is unfortunately one of the most common ways people enter therapy. I can help you discover methods that allow you to feel more fulfilled in your life. Some common issues I treat are:
-
Depression and Anxiety
-
Dating and Relationship Issues
-
Confusion about Life
-
Career Issues
-
Feeling Stuck
Couples Therapy
Couples are often times repeating the same patterns in their relationships, without any awareness of what's going on. Having a third person able to help explain, make it visible, and create a space for safe communication can lead to new relational habits and deeper intimacy. I can help you change your cycles to get your relationship where you want it to be. I work with:
-
Communication
-
Intimacy Issues
-
Infidelity and Trust
-
Destructive Aggression
Family Therapy
The family unit has its own way of maintaining itself and will oftentimes self-preserve by blaming a particular person in the system. I can help you see patterns, strengthen helpful boundaries, and come together for each other. Issues I work on include:
-
Problems communicating with children.
-
Adolescent disobedience.
-
Traumatic baggage.
-
Divorce and Loss
My Approach
My clinical approach is multi-faceted and influenced by years of experience in a variety of settings. It is mostly grounded in somatic and humanistic psychological traditions. These therapy modalities allow us to go deeper than typical talk therapy and can help clarify emotional content that can explain many habitual patterns. With this newfound awareness we are able to work systematically at discovering new ways of being that lead to healthier more fulfilling lives. I also work from an empowerment perspective that challenges the standard narratives we are taught in society, in order to find authenticity in who we are.
About Me:
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW #84796) that runs my own small private practice. Originally from Los Angeles, I moved to Northern California to complete my undergraduate and graduate degree. From grocery stocker to university lecturer, my work experience has varied. But more importantly, my own fascination with how a single relationship is capable of creating lasting change pushed me in the direction of my current role as a private practice psychotherapist. I am constantly seeking new information and training to further my understanding of psychology and health, and how that creates lasting healing.
